What is Zumba® Fitness?

History
Zumba® began accidentally! In 1999 Beto Perez, a fitness instructor in Colombia, forgot his regular music one day and grabbed his Salsa and Merengue music from his car. It was an instant success and today we have Zumba® the largest dance craze ever known. It spans the globe with 5 million participants in 75 countries. It is now becoming familiar in Australia.
‘Danzfit’ classes can be found at five locations around Melbourne. They were one of the very first to offer Zumba classes with registered trained Zumba® Instructors in 2009. Now they are the most well known!
The difference with Zumba® from other exercise programs is the music – it’s the special motivational ingredient which mixes an exotic blend of distinctive rhythms and beats that are carefree, energetic, intuitive, passionate and playfully sensual. With specific beats and tempo changes, all you need to do is move naturally to the beat and loose yourself in the music.
The workout starts with one simple step and then moves up the body until everything is in motion. There is a lot of repetition, so the moves will become very familiar and quickly learned. Technique is not the emphasis.
A Zumba® workout is all about fun – you can’t do it wrong, you don’t need a partner or a love of exercise. It is suitable for all age groups - young, old, large, small, female, male, fit or not- so- fit. Zumba is not a conventional exercise program.
